The Saint Nicholas Church in Verkhnedvinsk is recognized as a monument of classicism style. This style was popular in Europe in the XVIII-XIX centuries. It spread in Belarus due to the development of the estate construction and urban redevelopment. Of course, architects used this style during the construction of religious buildings. The Saint Nicholas Church built in 1819 was no exception. Clarity and severity of forms, laconic exterior decoration, and symmetry are the main ideals of classicism. All these distinctive features can be found in the temple in Verkhnedvinsk. One of the main attractions of the town is located on the Gagarin street. In 1895 it was recognized as Cathedral. It is a rectangular construction built of brick with a dome. It has arched windows with serrated cornice. The temple has a three-storey bell tower with a tented roof. Internal and external decor is quite modest. Previously, the walls of the construction were decorated with ornamental painting (not preserved). Today, there are three unique icons of the XVIII century in the Saint Nicholas Church: the icon "Evangelists Matthew and Luke", the icon "The Nativity of the Mother of God" and the icon "Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn". Every guest of Verkhnedvinsk should also pay attention to another famous attraction of the district, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (XIX century). Urban infill of the early XX century is also an important tourist attraction. Moreover, the local bridge across the Western Dvina is one of the highest bridges in Belarus.
