Memorial complex "Mound of Glory" - a monument of the Great Patriotic War, located in Smolevichy district, on the 21 km of the M2 Minsk-National Airport Minsk highway.
In these area in July 1944, during the largest offensive operation Bagration, a 105,000 of Hitler's troops was surrounded. It was called "Minsk Kettle". The defeat of this group ended on July 11 and was another decisive step towards the liberation of Belarus.
The construction of the Mound of Glory, which began in November 1967, has become a national affair. Thousands of people considered it their duty to make their contribution and brought here a handful of land. The memorial was created by an author's collective consisting of a national artist, sculptor A. Bembel, sculptor A. Artimovich, architects O. Stakhovich and L. Mickiewicz, and engineer B. Lapcevic.
The total height of the memorial is 70.6 meters. The earth hill is 35 meters high crowned by a sculptural composition of four bayonets covered with titanium with a height of 35.6 meters each. Bayonets symbolize the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Belorussian and 1st Baltic Fronts, which liberated Belarus. Their base encircled by ring with bas-relief images of Soviet soldiers and partisans. On the inner side of the ring, made in the technique of mosaic, the text "Glory to the Soviet Army, Liberation Army!" In addition, the base of the obelisk is decorated with images of the Orders of the Patriotic War and Glory. From the foot of the mound, two concrete staircases lead to the monument, each has 241 steps. The opening of the Mound of Glory was held in 1969.
