Polykovichy Spring

Polykovichy Spring

Address

village Polykovichi, Mogilev region

Polykovichy Spring is located in seven kilometers from Mogilev, today it is almost suburbs. Polykovichi Spring has been known since 1552. The first owner of the spring in Mogilev was mayor Stanislav Kezgaylo. In the 19th century it belonged to Count Rimsky-Korsakov, who did everything possible for its beautification. Stone grotto covered with galvanized iron was built by his order. Water flowed from spring through the pipes into a special pool for a hundred buckets and locals used it from there. In times of Rimsky-Korsakov the stone Church of Saint Paraskeva was built there.

The Holy Martyr Paraskeva is considered as the patron of Polykovichi Spring. And in 1186 the relics of the Saint were brought to the Church of Saint Paraskeva from Mount Athos.

Later Alexander Menshikov, the friend and companion of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, owned this healing spring.

The Institute of Geochemistry and Geophysics of Belarus did the research and found out that the mineralization of the spring water is about 25%, and it contains a number healing elements used in balneotherapy.

Unfortunately after the October 1917 Revolution the healing spring in the village Paraskevichy was destroyed. But not forgotten. People still came to the spring, they prayed and drank the healing water.

Nowadays thousands of people visit the healing spring in the village Polykovichy. The water from the spring flows in a special font, the water is used for sanctification and the Sacrament of Baptism.
