Vysokoe is the most western city of Belarus. For many centuries it was a patrimonial nest for several magnate families, the city can not be unnoticed by lovers of recreation and tourism in Belarus. Located High 40 kilometers north of Brest near the state border with Poland.
For the first time the city is mentioned in the 14th century as Vysokiy Gorod. The successful location of the Vysokoe on the bank of the river Pulva was noted by the Grand Duke Gedimin, who stayed in this area during one of his campaigns. Throughout its long history, the city belonged to many famous magnate families, but the Golden Age was with Sapega family. In 1647, Jan Paul Sapega, who bought the city from Lukasz Voina, built a castle on the steep bank of the Pulva River, whose powerful walls survived more than one war. The city was famous by its artisans who produced paintings and carpets famous all over Belarus.
Start your acquaintance with the city better from the ruins of the ancient castle of Sapega in the Vysokoe. The tourist will see the remnants of military fortifications: steep embankments, ruined gates and parts of stone walls. You should also visit the palace and park ensemble of Potocki in Vysokoe, which has survived to this day almost in its original form. In one of the first services of the church, the Russian royal family took part: Emperor Alexander the Third, Empress Maria Fedorovna and their children.A memorable plate, installed at the entrance to the church, attests to this remarkable for the city's history event. Among other sacred objects of the city is the Troitsk church in Vysokoe, built in 1609 in the Baroque style, as well as the chapel of St. Barbara, erected in 1772 and featuring a rich interior decoration. Unfortunately, the Bonifrat Monastery, founded in the 18th century by Alexander Sapiega, has not been preserved.
