The Augustov channel – is the unique hydraulic engineering construction of the 19th century, one of the largest channels of Europe included in the preliminary List of the world heritage of UNESCO.
The total spread of the channel makes up 102,5 km, of which passes through the territory of Belarus, from the Belarusian-Polish border to the confluence of the channel of the river Neman.
A unique eco-system of the Augustov channel attracts tourists. The river-bed of the channel follows picturesque places of the woodland of the Augustov forest, where rare species of plants & animals have been preserved. It is ecologically significant for the Baltic region, as well as for Europe in general.
The total area of the Park amounts to 5 749,88 ha & consists of 4 sectors in the city of Grodno and Grodno region:
The Belarusian part of the Avgustov Canal & the Neman river-bed with surrounding areas situated in Grodno & Grodno region are included into the Park’s territories.
Grodno region has a number of attractive conditions for the all-round development of tourism industry. The most important are: closeness to the states of Western Europe, Scandinavia, tourist market with a very high financial potential, as well as neighborhood with the Republic of Poland & the Baltic states, which is an important precondition for the development of trans-border tourism.
