House of Adam Mickiewicz – museum in Novogrudok at the place where the parents of the famous Polish-Belarusian poet, publicist and public figure once lived.
The first real attempt to open memorial Museum of Adam Mickiewicz in Novogrudok was in 1920. Local authorities allowed to organize in the house where the poet lived, a museum or library. However, to make it quickly was impossible, because in the house lived other people. Later the Polish-Soviet war began, and Novogrudok was occupied by the invaders. Plans to open a museum of A. Mickiewicz was postponed indefinitely.
Museum in Novogrudok appeared only in September 1938, on the initiative of voluntary scientific cmmunity "Mitskevichski Komitet". Soon the Great Patriotic War began, and the house-museum was badly damaged. It was recovered only after 14 years - on the 100th anniversary of the death of Adam Mickiewicz.
The building was completely renovated in 1991 on the historic original: there were an outbuilding, a barn, a well and a summerhouse. In May 2001 an operating exposition was opened in a museum. The collection includes about 8000 exhibits, with materials about poet's family (documents, portraits of parents and siblings, and other personal items.), the archaeological finds, books, dating back to the XVIII century, and much more.
