Kurapaty is a wooded area in the north-eastern border of Minsk, there a lot of victims of political repression died in 1937-1940 period.
At this place the BSSR NKVD officers killed people (90% of victims of repression were innocent and later rehabilitated). During the investigation on the territory of about 15 hectares 510 grave pits were found. In 1988 due to the efforts of community the memorial to the victims of Stalin repressions was made. According to Kuznetsov at least 30 thousand people may be buried there. The case of the mass burial of the victims of political repressions in Kurapaty has received international attention. In January 1994 the President of United States Bill Clinton visited Kurapaty during his visit to Belarus, he was accompanied by Zianon Pazniak.
The area was named after white flowers which grew all over there.
There is a hill in the forest with stones and icons written on them. The author is Anatoly Kuznetsov. The artist-iconographer of Minsk Holy Resurrection Orthodox Parish Anatoly Kuznetsov did not thought about the images of the stones, he saw the final images straight away. Therefore he calls his work as co-creation, as he doesn't interfere with the nature, he only emphasizes that has already been created before. The exposition is made of 44 stones with the images of saints.
The Central Botanical Garden of NAS of Belarus is the largest center of biodiversity preservation and the leading scientific institution in the field of plant ecology in the country. Research and practical work in the field of plant adaptation led to the creation of gene pool of ornamental and useful plants, which includes more than 12 thousand items, national treasure of the Republic of Belarus.
The attraction was built of heat-reflecting glass and alluminum carcass, it represents a huge sphere in the form of diamond which symbolizes the human knowledge.
The Upper Town has been the center of Minsk since the XVI century. There were upper market, Minsk City Hall, churches, monasteries, synagogues, estates of wealthy people and aristocrats. Despite many wars and destruction during long history of Minsk both historical layout of the streets and Upper Town remained almost unchanged, a lot of unique monuments of different eras and styles are preserved.
Church of Holy Trinity is located in the "Zolotaja Gorka" district. There is a legend that the church appeared thanks to a doctor.
The National Academic Grand Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus was founded in 1933 as the State Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus on the basis of the Belarusian studio of Opera and Ballet. In 1940 it became Grand Opera and Ballet Theatre, and in 1964 - Academic Grand Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Church of Saints Simon and Helena or Red Church is a monument of architecture, built with Neo-Gothic style with modern elements. It was built in 1905-1910 years on the Independence Square for money of the landlord Edward Woyniłłowicz in memory of his early deceased children. Architects are Tomasz Pajzderski and Władysław Marconi.
