St. Francis Xavier Catholic church - the Cathedral of the diocese of Grodno, an outstanding architectural monument of XVI-XVII centuries.
Construction works were initiated in 1678, and in 1705 it was consecrated. The consecration ceremony was attended by the Polish King August the First and the Russian Emperor Peter.Church and Convent of the Jesuits were the richest in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, occupied the whole quarter in the central part of the city. The complex includes a collegium, a pharmacy, a library, and a number of outbuildings.Three-nave church plan has a size of 30x60 m, height of about 50 m.
The interior of the church has 13 altars. Main was made from wood in 1736 in the style of late Baroque. The temple is decorated with frescoes and sculptures. At the beginning of the XX century monument to Antoni Tyzenhaus was erected in this Cathedral.
